Trevor Dunn put PROOF Readers together with the sole purpose of playing the beautiful & often neglected song book of Ornette Coleman. Trevor says, “The 1993 release of the complete Atlantic recordings “Beauty Is A Rare Thing” served as a catalyst for me in transcribing over 50 Ornette tunes. That endeavor in itself was a learning experience that informed my own writing in terms of form, variation, melody, and improvisation and led me towards an understanding of his harmolodic approach. The name PROOF Readers came from an unreleased song of the same name. Both Ornette’s musical & verbal language toy with syntax in their inimitable variation of normal harmony/grammar”.

NY bassist and composer Martin Nevin has worked with a wide range of artists including Billy Hart, Albert “Tootie” Heath, Sam Gendel, and Amen Dunes. He will present a set of new original music, joined by some of his favorite musicians. (Craig Weinrib- drums + special guests)
