Trippers & Askers is the folk / spiritual jazz project of musician, sound artist, educator and researcher Jay Hammond. The group’s latest album Acorn takes inspiration from Octavia Butler’s immersive and frighteningly prescient novel Parable of the Sower. As an intertextual work, Acorn brings together a wide array of collaborators that include members of Wye Oak, Califone, former Sun Ra member Ken Moshesh and comic artist John Jennings to explore the book’s narrative as it pertains to the very real political and emotional challenges of the present. The album was called “a shimmering homage to nature” by The Guardian. For this performance at The Owl, Hammond will perform solo with likely special guests and new material.

No Lands is the recording project of Brooklyn-based songwriter and audio engineer Michael Hammond. The debut No Lands album Negative Space was called “one of the most thrilling headphone experiences of this year” [Tome to the Weather Machine] and named the best electronic album of the year by the Brooklyn Rail. As a sound designer and audio engineer, Michael has worked with artists including So Percussion, yMusic, Shara Nova, the Kitchener‐Waterloo Symphony, Judd Greenstein, the San Francisco Symphony, Residentie Orkest, and Signal Ensemble. For this show, Hammond is joined by Molly Kerker on keyboards and vocals.
