California native Dina Maccabee is a sought-after collaborator as a violist and vocalist, currently a member of Julia Holter’s critically acclaimed touring and recording group. She began devising her current set for solo viola, electronics and voice in 2015, and she is especially curious about modal string music and cyclical semi-improvised structures.

Kaethe Hostetter is a 5 string electro-acoustic violin player who splits her time between Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and wherever her projects take her. As a child, she was exposed to traditional musics of all kinds – Mexican, Cajun, Balkan, Klezmer, Albanian – and a passion for virtuoso folk music has stayed a theme in her life throughout. It is no surprise, then, that Kaethe is well versed in Ethiopian music, leading to the creation of the successful groove outlet Debo Band, of which she was a co-founder in Jamaica Plain, MA, 2006. Currently in Addis, she has focused her energy now on her project QWANQWA, which is an experimental/traditional band with traditional instruments using effects pedals. Her myriad influences have resulted in a unique approach and sound, showing incredible technique, musicality, and the influence of a rich tapestry of genres and cultures. Tonight Kaethe will be performing her works for solo electric violin, which are influenced by her time in Ethiopia.

    Out of Sight of Land
Variously called “beautiful, hypnotic” (Weird Canada), and “highly intriguing” (Birds of Canada), the music of New York-raised, Montreal-matured composer Damon Hankoff treads lines between minimalist textures, ancient choral sonorities, and folk sensibilities. The most recent iteration of his project entitled Out of Sight of Land features bassist Brian Dolphin and vocalist Kim Anderson. (outofsightofland.com)
