    Schlegelmilch / Schnite / Freedman / Dow / Goldman / Warren // Danny Fox Trio June 23

    7:30 Doors 8pm Show

    Schlegelmilch Warren etc

In the spirit of reconnecting with old friends and with live audiences after the long pandemic lockdown, Brooklyn-based pianist and composer JP Schlegelmilch has assembled a new group featuring some of his longtime collaborators for a special northeast tour. The band features saxophonist Adam Schneit and drummer Max Goldman, JP’s bandmates from the Americana/Folk/Jazz group Old Time Musketry, which released two critically-acclaimed recordings and toured widely in the US; trumpeter and composer Kenny Warren (In the Heat Trio, Laila and Smitty, Slavic Soul Party), lap steel player Myk Freedman (The Mykfreedmans, The Sandcatchers); and electric bassist and composer Andrew Dow (Ressik).

Formed in 2008, the Danny Fox Trio, featuring pianist Danny Fox, bassist Chris van Voorst van Beest, and drummer Max Goldman, is a true working band hailed for reinventing the classic piano trio format with genre-defying, uniquely personal original music. Whether holed up in a Brooklyn basement rehearsing or touring around the country crammed into a sedan, the trio has spent countless hours developing a rapport that’s immediately palpable in their music.  Described as “cool but not modish” (New York Times), the band mixes tight ensemble playing with highly interactive, attuned improvisation.  Drawing on influences as varied as Ellington, Bartok, and The Meters, the music can switch gears at any moment yet remains cohesive thanks to strong motivic development and rigorous arrangements that challenge the traditional roles of the piano trio instruments.  Having received critical acclaim for the albums “The One Constant” (Songlines) and “Wide Eyed” (Hot Cup), the trio released their third album “The Great Nostalgist” (Hot Cup) in 2018.
