Two Vermonters, two New Yorkers, one quartet. Rob, Dana, Michael and Tony met in the pit of the show Hadestown when it was off-Broadway. Together they have worked up a repertoire that includes material written together, tunes by Lyn and Chorney, improvisational forays and Chorney’s songs. Music as pastoral and gritty as their respective homes.

Violin player and composer Dana Lyn inhabits a musical world somewhere in the Venn diagram of 70’s art rock, classical, traditional Irish and improvised music; this evening, her sextet Mother Octopus presents a suite of music inspired by the life and work of visual artist Jay DeFeo, and in particular, the creation story of her one-ton painting, “The Rose.”Dana Lyn, violinMike McGinnis, clarinetSara Schoenbeck, bassoonPatricia Brennan, vibesGary Wang, bassNoel Brennan, drums
