8 PM: Guitarist-composer Miles Okazaki has a head for intricate structure and elegant convolution, and his best outlet so far has been Trickster, a band with two fellow alumni of Steve Coleman’s Five Elements. Along with that dynamic duo — bassist Anthony Tidd, drummer Sean Rickman — there’s a spot in the matrix for piano. On the group’s 2017 self-titled debut, that role belonged to Craig Taborn; on The Sky Below (Oct. 31, Pi Recordings)  it falls to Matt Mitchell, who’s well equipped to flip tricks into treats. Trickster is best understood in both cerebral and visceral terms. On the one hand, it’s a delivery system for some proudly intricate and idiosyncratic compositions, the byproduct of a deeply rigorous mind. On the other hand, it’s a go-for-broke quartet, capable of shifting the ground underfoot without ever losing its balance.” – Nate Chinen, “Take Five” (WBGO)

9 PM: Drummer-composer Lesley Mok brings together Anna Webber and Mark Hannaford to present a set of new music inspired by the unique timbral explorations of this ensemble.

10 PM: Charlotte Jacobs developed a passion for sound and lyric composing during her training as a vocalist. her background in jazz determines the sense of harmony and melody in her compositions.
the arrangements are largely electronic, vocal-based and even cinematic.  For her solo work, Charlotte creates more room for storytelling and sound texture by slightly letting complex harmony fade, drawing inspiration from the repertoires of Scandinavian soundmakers, avant pop and eastern cultures.  In the past two years, she has assembled a melancholy-infused anglophone and dutch-language repertoire.  In 2017 she started to  record her first solo album together with zubin hensler (twig twig, half waif, fleet foxes) ‘Fishtale EP’ was released in 2019 and features Hannah Epperson.  Charlotte is currently working on a collection of new songs and therefor is working with a variety of artists with roots in jazz, avant garde, IDM and classical music.  She will appear with drummer and composer Raf Vertessen.
