Dana Lyn' Mother Octopus / Relatives Unknown 30
7:00 doors $10.00 Suggested DonationBrooklyn-based composer Dana Lyn and her quintet Mother Octopus present a suite of music inspired by visual artist Jay DeFeo (1929-89), best known for her painting “The Rose”, a one-ton multi-media monument that was her soul focus for eight years.“Stunning in its beauty, yet remarkable in that it includes the dark colors of the mosaic chips as well.” George Harris, Jazz WeeklyFeaturing Dana Lyn (violin), Mike McGinnis (clarinets), Clara Kennedy (cello), Ty Citerman (guitar) and Patricia Brennan (vibraphone)Relatives Unknown are Alexandra Eckhardt (bass), Dan Lipton (piano) and Konrad Meissner (drums), featuring Rebecca Hall (vocals). The musicians — who have played with Sting, Sara Bareilles, Matt Nathanson, Tracy Bonham and Duncan Sheik between them — bring a rhythmic, textured, improvisatory spirit to pop tunes, jazz standards and anything in between. Their musical explorations with Rebecca Hall transpire over songs by David Byrne, Bjork, Nick Drake, Nina Simone, and Arctic Monkeys.
