    The Ives of March w Maya Bennardo and Karl Larson 3/15

    The Ives of March is an annual event hosted by Maya Bennardo and Karl Larson to celebrate the exhilarating and eccentric music of Charles Ives.

    This year the artists will be presenting “the biggest one yet … two sets with each set containing two sonatas, so that by the end of the evening you will have heard all four sonatas!”
     
    Violinist Maya Bennardo is an active performer and teacher living in Brooklyn, NY. Maya is passionate about opening the dialogue between composers and performers, and is devoted to performing music of the present. She is a founding member of the violin/viola duo andPlay, an ensemble that works to commission new works and perform lesser-known pieces for their instrumentation. She has worked with new music ensembles such as Ensemble Signal, ensemble mise-en, Nouveau Classical Project, Hotel Elefant, Contemporaneous, Mimesis Ensemble, and [Switch~ Ensemble]. She graduated from NYU with a Master of Music and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music with a Bachelor of Music. She studied with Gregory Fulkerson at both institutions.
     
     
    Brooklyn-based pianist Karl Larson is a specialist in the music of our time. Consistently presenting adventurous programs, Larson regularly performs across the United States. Recent performances of note include appearances at EMPAC, the Guggenheim Museum, and MoMA. Karl has collaborated with many highly regarded members of his field. He frequently performs with his trio, Bearthoven, and has also recently appeared with the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Ensemble Signal, and the American Composers Orchestra. Larson has released recordings on Cantaloupe Music, New Focus Recordings, and GALTTA Media, and he holds a DMA in Contemporary Music Performance from Bowling Green State University
     
    New England based cellist, Zan Berry, is a passionate and creative musician who weaves together diverse musical interests in his work as a performer and teacher. He tries to perform the works of living composers as much as possible.  He has participated in music festivals, including Bang on a Can, New Music on the Point, and Fresh Inc and has played with members of the JACK Quartet, Bang on a Can All Stars, and Fifth House Ensemble. Zan currently holds the Urban Musical Fellowship at Community MusicWorks, a non-profit organization based in Providence, RI that builds a cohesive urban community through free musical performances and educational programs.
